Due to Virginia's new firearms law scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026, The Gunsite will not accept transfers of firearms that fall under the new "assault firearm" restrictions after June 10, 2026. Any restricted item not picked up before our last business day of June 27 will not be available for transfer under the new law. No exceptions and we will not ship firearms back.
This deadline is necessary to allow sufficient time for paperwork to be completed, and customers to take possession before the law's effective date.
Firearms Expected to Be Affected Include:
Semi-Automatic Rifles
Semi-automatic centerfire rifles that accept detachable magazines and have features such as:
• Pistol grip
• Folding or telescoping stock
• Thumbhole stock
• Forward grip
• Flash suppressor
• Threaded barrel
Examples may include AR-15 style rifles, AK-pattern rifles, Sig MCX rifles, Springfield Hellion rifles, and similar modern sporting rifles.
Semi-Automatic Pistols
Semi-automatic pistols with features such as:
• Threaded barrel
• Magazine located outside the pistol grip
• Second handgrip
• Barrel shroud
Examples may include AR-style pistols, AK-style pistols, and many threaded-barrel tactical pistols.
Semi-Automatic Shotguns
Semi-automatic shotguns with:
• Pistol grips
• Folding or telescoping stocks
• Detachable magazines
• Certain high-capacity fixed magazines
Firearms Generally Not Affected
✅ Many concealed carry handguns
✅ Bolt-action rifles
✅ Lever-action rifles
✅ Pump-action shotguns
✅ Single-shot firearms
✅ Most traditional hunting firearms
IMPORTANT
If you are planning to purchase or transfer a firearm that may be affected by the new law, please make arrangements before June 10, 2026.
